01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
The moment meat hits the tabletop roaster, fragrant smoke and the sweet-savory aroma of the sauce immediately stir the appetite. Located in the Kamakura neighborhood of Tokyo's Katsushika Ward, yakiniku restaurant Kogetsu offers hearty grilled meats and warm Korean-style dishes in an unpretentious setting. The menu features a broad lineup of yakiniku staples, from standard and premium kalbi short rib to tender jo-ro-su loin and harami skirt steak with its appealing balance of lean meat and marbling.
Part of the appeal at Kogetsu is the option to explore offal and less conventional cuts. The beef tendon (gyusuji), which releases deeper savory flavor with every bite, has loyal fans who enjoy it cooked over the grill wire rather than in a traditional stew. Guests can also compare textures and richness through the mixed offal plate—combining tongue, heart, liver, and rumen—alongside crisp premium rumen (jo-mino) and rich horumon. Pairing these cuts with palate cleansers such as kakuteki radish kimchi, an assorted kimchi platter, or fresh sanchu lettuce wraps rounds out the table spread.
To close out a yakiniku dinner, slow-simmered soups and rice dishes serve as hearty, satisfying anchors. The broth selection suits different cravings and appetites, including rich oxtail gomtang, spiritedly spicy daegutang, and kalbi gukbap infused with the savory essence of simmered beef. Noodle lovers can also opt for daegutang udon or kalbi udon, ensuring the meal finishes on a warm and filling note.
With an assortment of alcoholic drinks such as draft beer, sours, makgeolli, and shochu, the dining room comfortably hosts everything from family dinners to casual drinks among friends. Advance reservations are accepted, and because payment is strictly cash only, having cash prepared ahead of time ensures a smooth visit.
